This license is the first for Binance in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region.

“The license from Bahrain is a milestone in our journey to become fully licensed and regulated worldwide,” said Binance founder and CEO, Changpeng Zhao, wrote in a press announcement.

Binance was given pre-approval for the license since December, but is required to complete a full application process before being granted a full license.

Despite its successful expansion into the Middle East region, by 2021, Binance was under fire from regulators in a number of countries, including the UK and Japan.

The oil-rich kingdom of Bahrain, however, appears to view Binance in a more positive light and sees the license as a step in the right direction for the nascent crypto industry.

The CEO of Bahrain Economic Development Council, Khalid Humaidan, wrote in a statement, the Bahrain team has built a world-class infrastructure to support the fast-growing, highly regulated, blockchain and crypto industry.

Collaboration with industry leaders like Binance will further enhance Bahrain's mission to build the Kingdom of Bahrain as a leading business hub.
