Electric motor circuit 3 phase Two-way rotary

Navigasi - This time I will share knowledge about industrial electrical engineering, especially for colleagues who yesterday asked to share an article about two-way rotary electric circuits.

Therefore, I will try to share knowledge about the two-way rotary control circuit or often called the Forward Reverse circuit.

As the name suggests, the two-way circuit serves to regulate the direction of rotation of the 3 phase motor to the left or to the right, which we often use on factory machines such as:

  • Glue pump machine ( at plywood company )
  • Lathe
  • Automatic gate
  • And other machines that use 2-way rotation (back and forth)

As for the wiring diagram of the 2-way rotary circuit as follows:


From the diagram of the wiring diagram for the two-way circuit above, we can see that to change the direction of rotation of the 3 phase motor, you simply swap one of the phases on a 3 phase electric motor, which in Figure K1 connects R to U while K2 connects T to U and also K1 connects T to W while K2 connects R to W.

Circuit Code Description


  • MCB : MCB
  • Off : push button off
  • On : push button on
  • NO : Normally closed
  • NC : Normally Open
  • Q : Timer
  • K : Contactor
  • L : Indicator light

  1. When ON1 is pressed K1 will get an electric current so NO K1 will lock
  2. Because K1 works NC K1 will be in a disconnected position so that if ON2 is pressed K2 will not work (as a safety).
  3. If you want to turn off or change the direction of rotation of the motor, you must first press the OFF push button.
  4. When ON2 is pressed K2 will get an electric current so NO K2 will lock
  5. Because K2 works NC K2 will be in a disconnected position so that if ON1 is pressed K1 will not work (as a safety).

If you want to turn off or change the direction of rotation of the motor, you must first press the OFF push button.
