Get to know the functions and types of batteries in vehicles and how to care for them

From the function and needs of the Accu / battery it really helps your vehicle to be comfortable when we drive, whereas if you look at the type of chemical content contained in the battery, it will be divided into 5 types, namely as follows.

types of batteries commonly used

There are many types of batteries on the market which we will review as follows:

Dry Battery

Dry battery (maintenace free) is a battery (battery) that uses at least liquid electrolyte (sulfuric acid). In addition, dry battery uses calcium lead unlike wet battery which uses antimony lead.

In terms of superiority, calcium tin is better than antimony tin, as we know that calcium tin has a smaller vapor capacity than antimony tin, so that the use of electrolyte liquid is less or more efficient.

of wet and dry batteries which are simple to maintain and also save electrolyte fluids.

We rarely find this type of battery on the market, although it is not as rare as a calcium battery.

Gel battery

Gel battery is a type of battery (battery) that uses gel as a substitute for its liquid electrolyte.

This type of battery is the latest and most sophisticated technology today, by replacing liquid sulfuric acid (liquid electrolyte) with gel, this battery eliminates the negative effects of sulfuric acid which is harmful to humans as we know that liquid sulfate has a corrosive effect.

Apart from that, maintenance for gel batteries is simple and they last longer than other batteries.

This type of battery is the rarest to find because it is the newest type of battery and if there is one, the price is the most expensive than other types of batteries.

As for battery maintenance on vehicles, we have summarized from experience and various sources as follows.

Wet battery

Wet batteries are batteries (batteries) that use sulfuric acid (liquid electrolyte) the most.

As well as using antimony tin as a conductor of the reaction as we know antimony tin has a very high vapor power so that the use of sulfuric acid liquid (liquid electrolyte) is more than the others.

Wet batteries are also the most widely used in the community, making it easier for us to find/buy them on the market, even in remote areas we can find this type of battery.

Calcium battery

Calcium battery is a battery (battery) that uses calcium lead as the positive and negative poles of the battery.

As we know, the vapor power of calcium tin is very low, apart from that, the electrical power is somewhat better than the 2 types of batteries above.

This also makes it difficult for us to find (buy) this battery on the market because it is rare to use this type of battery, if there is one, the price must be expensive.

Hybrid battery

Hybrid battery is a type of battery (battery) that uses a combination of 2 types of battery systems, namely wet battery and dry battery.

So that we get all the advantages of wet and dry batteries which are simple to maintain and also save electrolyte fluids.

We rarely find this type of battery on the market, although it is not as rare as a calcium battery.

Tips on how to care for batteries in vehicles

Checking the electrical load on the vehicle

Checking the electrical load on your vehicle must be done because sometimes the electrical load becomes high due to rust or short circuits in the vehicle's electrical network.

This can make your vehicle's battery sink quickly (damage) if the battery receives an excess electrical load than its capacity, therefore you must check your vehicle's electrical load regularly and periodically so that your vehicle's battery lasts.

Routine cleaning maintenance

In addition to checking the electrical load of your vehicle, you also have to pay attention to the cleanliness of your battery, this is done so that your battery does not rust quickly which makes the electrical load high.

Apart from that, you can also see the amount of electrolyte in your battery so that if you experience a reduction, you can immediately fill it up.

Do an electrical check on the battery

If you have a multi tester or volt meter and ammeter, it would be better for you to check the battery on your vehicle.

So that if the electricity content is much reduced, you can immediately charge it or if it doesn't decrease much, you can charge it by heating your vehicle.

Warm up the vehicle

After carrying out maintenance and checking the battery above, then warm up the vehicle, this serves to charge the electricity in the battery so that it is always sufficient.

Apart from that, by warming up the vehicle, oil circulation in the vehicle will run smoother and better, therefore, it is mandatory to do regular daily heating of the vehicle.

Unplug the vehicle from the battery when the vehicle is not in use.

Removing the cable on the battery works so that the battery power does not decrease even though this only reduces a small amount of electricity but if it is for a long time it can damage your battery (soak / damage).

This usually happens when we go home or return to our hometown for a long time without bringing our vehicle, so we don't warm up the vehicle, one of its functions is to charge the vehicle's battery.

Use a standard battery on the vehicle

For the vehicle itself, choose a battery that is standard for your vehicle because if the battery power is insufficient, it will cause the battery to become weak / damaged easily.

Whereas if the battery has a high electric power it will make the alternator on the vehicle quickly damaged as we know the alternator functions to charge electricity to the vehicle battery if your vehicle battery has a higher capacity (not standard) it will make the alternator work harder so it is prone to damage .

So in essence, choose a standard and quality battery so that your battery and vehicle last a long time without having problems when you drive it.
